Madrid KimmyV and I have arrived, first experience with the locals was quite entertaining. Greeted by Juan at the Air BnB accomodation he was great to point travel tips and places to see….. As kimmyV and I had been spoilt in Barcelona with most people speaking English not so in Madrid at this stage, we now had to smarten our act up. Ordering these beers was quite the challenge but we got there with a lot of pointing at the menu with not much of a smile from the old duck serving us. Needing google translate we to read the menu I still had to point more when I ordered the food. No smile and no assistant from other staff I thought fuck what will we get. KimmyV got tips from star traveler Megs and one to remember was “dos mas” I raised my hand like a school kid the lady came over and I said “dos mas gracias” yes that’s right and I won her over and got a smile. The culture is quite different in Madrid but not a bad thing just need to brush up on the language and I’m sure I’ll win a few more old hearts.
Love it!! Yes, Madrid has a lot less people who speak English. However when Pete and I were in Barcelona a few years back, we ordered two glasses of Rosado, but when we got our order, the waiter gave us two espressos! Enjoy Madrid, it is a wonderful city!
