Absolutely fantastic place and it sure took us back in time. Our last day and luck on our side we had half a day to enjoy old town, it was spent on the spectacular walls of Dubrovnik. KimmyV and I was fortunate enough to view the walls from the ocean on her birthday, now we are enjoying the walk on the walls. Around 2km long, 1080 steps and 2hrs walking it sure was well worth it, with the coolest sites. Roof top views and seeing the ocean as far as the eye can see, I’ll be back one day indeed…..

The City was separated from the mainland by the sea channel which was filled with earth in the 11th century. In the 13th century, the whole city was enclosed with the walls. Dominican monastery became a part of the City wall complex in the 14th century. In the same time, there were built 15 square forts to increase the strength.
The design derives from the 14th century. The definitive shape was fixed in time between the fall of Constantinople in 1453. and the earthquake in 1667. That period is called the Golden Age of Dubrovnik.

If you are able to climb many stairs, got the time to 2km around the whole old city of Dubrovnik then you will be rewarded with extraordinary views of the city, the fort (remember Game of Thrones?), Lokrum island and the old harbor.
There are three entrance points to the city wall, each one with a ticket booth. One at each of the big city gates, a third one near the maritime museum. If the steep steps at the Pile gate do not scare you, you will make the rest of the walk easily. KimmyV and I took the entrance at the Pile gate and completed the whole round.
Pro tip, Chose your time to walk wisely, hundreds of other tourist will try to do the same and some parts of the route are pretty narrow.
